Meditation can relieve asthma attack triggers

Meditation can help overcome chronic inflammation including asthma by over 70%.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 235 million people suffer from asthma and stress is becoming one of the biggest causes of asthma attack.

Asthma is a long-term disease, which inflames and narrows one’s airways. Severe asthma attacks require hospitalization and might even lead to death. Three primary symptoms of asthma…

1. Tight chest

2. Breathing difficulty

3. Wheezing and coughing

The most common reasons for asthma attacks are

1. Allergens

2. Emotional factors

3. Weather conditions

4. Airway and chest infections

5. Stress is considered to be one of the triggers for asthma attack. For an asthma victim, stress can constrict the airways leading to cough and tightness of chest. Meditation can play an important role in stress management of asthma victims.

Regular meditation can reduce the level of cortisol hormone in our bodies, leading to lesser stress. Tonya Jacobs of the University of California proved this, after her three-month long study of 57 meditators.

Research studies conducted by the experts at Harvard Medical School suggest that there lies a strong correlation between asthma attacks and healing powers of meditation. Meditation and breathing exercises help in reducing the intensity and frequency of asthma attacks. The patients who have attained the highest of this ability can altogether prevent an asthma attack.

The study conducted at the Natural Therapies Unit of the Royal Hospital for Women in Australia found out that Sahaja Yoga meditation can have beneficial effect on asthma patients who were resistant to steroids.

Medicine has still to find an effective cure for asthma. However, meditation can help the asthma victims relieve many of the asthma symptoms, thereby enabling them to lead a better life.
