Meditation can help reverse aging

Telomerase activity goes up by up to 30% after 4-6 months of meditation; helps reverse aging process.

Maybe our ancient scriptures were right and the tales of those ageless, youthful-young looking saints meditating atop mountains for hundreds of years is closer to reality than we thought!

Telomere extension turns back aging clock

Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn, a biological researcher at the University of California, shared the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2009 for her co-discovery of an enzyme ‘telomerase’. This enzyme influences the length of telomeres, the chromosome protecting structures.

According to an ongoing research by Dr. Blackburn and her colleagues, the telomerase activity goes up by 30% after 4 to 6 months of regular meditation. As the telomerase activity influences the biological clock directly or indirectly, we experience a physiological wellbeing as a result of regular meditation. It keeps you staying young naturally, for longer.

Meditation slows age related cognition decline; turns back the internal clock

Giuseppe Pagnoni, an Atlanta neuroscientist, used brain imaging to show that meditation may protect against the cognitive decline that occurs as we age, it slows the aging process.

Bernard Siegel of Yale University School of Medicine, out of his conviction from his clinical practice, believes that the state of mind changes the state of the body by working through the nervous system, the endocrine system and the immune system.

A new study by UCLA researchers found that meditation appeared to help preserve the brain’s gray matter, the tissue that contains neurons. The research suggested that people who meditate have less age-related atrophy in the brain’s white matter and live healthier and better life.

So for those who would like to look young, stay young to live young, there is nothing like indulging in ‘meditation sessions’.
